A new framework for finding your customers
Since August 11, 2026, telephone canvassing of consumers has been subject to a principle of prior consent. For a craftsman, this development poses a very concrete question: how to bring the right requests to your company?
Your site can contribute to this. As long as you show what you do, provide reassurance about your work and allow the visitor to explain their needs to you. Here are the rules to know and the course to build.
What’s changing for sales calls
The framework presented here concerns commercial appeals to consumers. Since August 11, 2026, their prior agreement is in principle necessary. Exceptions exist, in particular for a solicitation linked to a current contract. Having worked for a person in the past is therefore not enough to invoke this exception.
Consent must result from a clear action, be informed and be able to be withdrawn. A pre-checked box is not enough. The company must be able to prove the agreement obtained. Authorized times and other call supervision rules continue to apply. Source: Public Service, updated August 11, 2026.
Energy renovation, adaptation of housing to loss of autonomy and CPF are subject to specific prohibitions, even with an agreement to canvassing. The DGCCRF specifies, however, that a professional can call back following an explicit request, for example for a quote, within five working days. A generic form does not allow you to circumvent these rules. Source: DGCCRF, August 5, 2026.
Start with the person who is already looking for your service
Imagine an individual who wishes to have two rooms repainted near Saint-Brieuc. He wants to know if you work on his site, if you take on this type of project and how to obtain an estimate.
If your page only answers “a passionate team at your service”, there is everything left to discover. He needs to call to verify information that your site might already give him.
A useful page prepares this exchange. It presents the work carried out, the usual constraints, the stages of the estimate and the municipalities actually served. The visitor can then decide if their project corresponds to your activity.
This work begins with a specific service. Choose the one you want to receive more requests for and for which you have solid evidence.
Write a page that helps you choose
Let's take a fictitious example of a painter working with individuals. A presentation could follow this logic:
Do you want to repaint an occupied apartment? Show us the parts concerned, the condition of the supports and your schedule. A visit allows you to check the necessary preparation and establish the quote.
This text already explains what the customer should prepare and what will happen next. It will naturally have to be adapted to the actual functioning of the company.
Add a documented achievement: photos authorized, type of support, initial problem and intervention carried out. A legend that explains the preparation of a wall provides different information than a simple gallery of finished pieces.
Also indicate the limits of your service. If you do not cover emergencies or certain jobs, say so. You help the reader get oriented and you avoid unnecessary exchanges.
Our guide to website for craftsman deepens this preparation of quote requests.
A form must clearly announce what follows
When contacting you, the visitor must understand what they are asking. “Describe my project” or “Request a callback for this quote” give a more precise objective than a “Send” button.
For an initial discussion, you can ask for the type of work, the municipality, the planned timetable and the desired means of response. Make fields mandatory only when necessary. An attachment can help, but it shouldn't block someone who doesn't have a photo yet.
Then explain how the request will be processed. Announce a response time only if you are organized to meet it. A promise “within the hour” also obliges the team on the day when everyone is on site.
The DGCCRF distinguishes between explicit consumer request and commercial canvassing. So keep the context of the request and process the callback in its subject. The number transmitted to discuss a quote should not automatically become authorization to receive all your future offers. Source: DGCCRF.
Arrange follow-up before seeking more contacts
A request received during an intervention can quickly get lost between an SMS, an email box and a note on paper.
Prepare a simple circuit: the request arrives, a person is responsible for it, a next action is set and the file receives a status. For example: received, to be specified, appointment set, quote sent, accepted or closed.
Automation can save the form and notify the person concerned. The commercial response must take into account the site, availability and the framework applicable to the contact.
Before launching a campaign to get more requests, do a test yourself from a phone. Check the message received, the internal notification and the person responsible for responding. Our presentation of automation services explains the uses that we can implement with your team.
Look at the useful quotes, then the signed projects
An increase in the number of forms can hide more requests from outside the area or outside the service. To understand what your site provides, follow some information: origin of the contact, suitability of the project, first response time, established quote and customer decision.
Also note the reasons for refusals. If the requests regularly concern a service that you do not offer, your page may need to be clarified. If the projects are suitable but the prospects remain unanswered, the priority is follow-up.
Your next action: test the journey of a future customer
Open your site on mobile. Choose a service and try to answer these four questions: do we work in my municipality, do I carry out my type of work, what proof can I consult and how do I present my project?
Each missing answer gives you a concrete improvement to make.
Transform reading into action.
