Why Your Website Does Not Appear on Google

Why Your Website Does Not Appear on Google
01

Identify precisely what is invisible

Note the problematic search, the page you expected and the result you observed. “I can't find my business” is too vague to choose a fix. “My plumbing page does not appear on Plumbing Quintin, but appears when I search for my name” already gives a usable lead.

Do a search on your business name with your municipality, then on a specific service. Look separately at links to sites, ads and map results. A presence in one of these spaces does not prove a presence in the others. Your location may also vary depending on the location of the person searching.

Fictitious example: a painting company appears in its name but not on Saint-Brieuc facade renovation. You must first see if it has a page that actually describes this service. Creating a new Google Business Profile listing or requesting indexing of the reception would not necessarily address the problem observed.

02

Check indexing with Search Console

Open your site property in Google Search Console and inspect the full address of the relevant page. The tool distinguishes between information known to Google and a live URL test. Check the reason indicated when a page is not indexed, then the date of the last crawl. The official guide to URL inspection details this information.

Also check the canonical page chosen by Google: it may retain another address as the main version. This is sometimes normal, for example between two variations of the same page. If Google selects a page that is unrelated to the expected content, ask the technical lead to review duplicates, redirects, and canonicals.

A search with site:yourdomain.fr can provide a first overview, but does not constitute a complete inventory. Keep a diagnostic sheet for each important URL: observed state, reason, last crawl, planned correction and date of next check. Start with the home and your main services pages, not every image on the site.

03

Fix technical blockages before texts

A page intended for customers must be accessible without login or password. Check that it opens on phone and computer, that it displays its main content and that it does not return an error. An address that works in your administrator session may remain inaccessible to the public.

Then have the noindex directives, HTTP headers and robots.txt file checked. These mechanisms are not interchangeable: robots.txt supervises the exploration, while noindex asks not to index a page. A crawl block can prevent the engine from reading the noindex directive. The Google documentation on robots.txt clarifies this distinction.

Do not remove all site protections to unblock a commercial page. The client areas, drafts and private interfaces have another role. Request a fix limited to the affected public URLs and then re-verify their access. If the problem appeared after a redesign, also find the old addresses that received visits and their current destination.

04

Help Google discover a useful page

An accessible but isolated page is difficult to find from your own site. Add a link from the services section, a relevant business page or an article that deals with the same need. The text of the link must announce the destination: “bathroom renovation” provides better information to the visitor than a “click here” without context.

The sitemap must list the main public addresses that you want to be discovered. Avoid mixing deleted pages, redirects and several identical variations. A sitemap is an entry point for search engines; it does not replace clear navigation or content that answers a question.

After a substantial fix, you can request a recrawl in Search Console. Google states that a request does not guarantee indexing and that repeating submissions does not speed up processing. Consult his re-exploration procedure, then leave a trace of the modification before returning to check its effect.

05

If the page is indexed, work on its relevance

An indexed page may remain poorly visible in a competitive search. Reread it like a prospect: do we understand the service, the public concerned, the area of intervention and the conditions for making contact? A title that only announces “Our solutions” is not much help to a visitor who is comparing companies for a specific need.

For a local service, describe what you do and what you do not take care of. Add photos that you have the right to use, site explanations and answers to questions received before quotes. Mention your actual municipalities of intervention without reproducing the same text for dozens of cities.

In Search Console, observe impressions, queries, and affected pages over several weeks. If a page receives impressions on searches far from your offer, its content deserves to be clarified. If it attracts visitors without requests, continue with our guide to generate qualified quotes in Saint-Brieuc.

06

Separate the site from Google Maps results

The absence in Maps requires an examination of the establishment file: status, activity entered, public information and possible notifications from the manager. Changing a page title alone does not solve a listing problem. Conversely, a visible sheet does not exempt you from explaining your services on your site.

Check that the file link arrives on an active page and that the telephone number, name and times are consistent. If you work with your customers, describe how you actually operate. Don’t create a fictitious office address in a city where you are not based to make it seem closer.

The guide Google profile, site and reviews develops this complementarity. Here, the goal of the diagnosis remains to find the right person responsible and the right action: technical access, page content or file management. A single keyword list does not replace these checks.

07

Organize corrections in the correct order

Start with errors that prevent access to commercial pages. Then deal with indexability and canonical addresses. Then improve internal links, business explanations and evidence. This sequence avoids spending several days rewriting a page that the engines still cannot consult.

To track the work, create a table with six columns: URL, Symptom, Observed Evidence, Action, Responsible, and Control Date. Fictitious example: “cover page; not indexed; noindex identified; remove the directive on this public page; web service provider; check after correction”. Each action must be able to be confirmed by observation.

If you delegate, ask for a report that separates the corrections made from the results still expected. Our SEO support in Saint-Brieuc can be taken from this list. The next useful indicator will be the visibility of the page on relevant searches and then the contacts obtained, not the number of settings modified.

Frequently asked questions about a site invisible in Google

How long does it take to appear on Google?

There is no guaranteed deadline. A new site, a technical correction and a position improvement do not follow the same schedule. Check access and indexing first, then compare data over a sufficient period of time to see more than daily variation.

Do you have to pay Google to be naturally referenced?

Buying ads is not a natural indexing condition. Advertising is a separate channel, with its budget and results. Before investing, make sure the page really allows the prospect to understand your offer and contact you.

Should I redo my site if I can't find it?

Not before diagnosis. A directive retained after going live, a bad redirection or an isolated page may require targeted correction. A redesign becomes relevant when the problems relate more broadly to the content, structure and use of the site.

Is an indexed page necessarily well ranked?

No. Indexing means that Google has retained a page in its index, not that it will be offered at the top for each search. The relevance to the need and the quality of the response remain to be worked on.

Transform reading into action.
