Clothing Stores: Prepare for Year-End Sales in September

Clothing Stores: Prepare for Year-End Sales in September
01

A first concrete project for your store

Before end-of-year purchases, this gap deserves your attention. Digital technology can help a person locate an item, verify information and prepare for their visit. We still need to give him something to decide.

For an independent store, we suggest starting with a limited selection, well-organized booking and reliable information on mobile.

02

What the summer report teaches us

On September 7, 2026, the Commerce Alliance published the summer report for its panel of clothing brands. In July and August, in-store turnover fell by 1.9% compared to the comparable period of 2025, while online sales increased by 3.7%. The web, however, fell by 2.1% in August: the trend differs depending on the month. Source: Alliance du Commerce / Retail Int..

These data concern a national panel of more than 70 brands. They do not alone describe the situation of the independent stores in Saint-Brieuc or Quintin and do not prove that a new site would increase their sales.

They nevertheless invite us to examine the role of each point of contact. Our proposal is to bring what your store shows online to what it can actually offer in store.

03

Choose a selection that you can keep up to date

Start with a clear use: dressing for an occasion, finding a warm piece or looking for a gift within a given budget. Select a small number of items that the team is familiar with and can track availability of.

A precise selection allows you to work on each presentation. Photograph the details that matter: cut, material, closure, interior or possible combination. Add the actual price and useful sizing information.

If your site does not reflect real-time inventory, explain how to check availability. An “available” promise must correspond to an organization capable of keeping it.

Finally, plan who updates the selection and when. A page becomes more difficult to use when out-of-stock products remain highlighted without explanation.

04

Write what you would say to a customer in a store

In the store, you probably don't just read the name of the item. You explain its cut, you ask for what occasion it will be worn and you suggest a size to try on.

Your online presentation can include this clarification.

Let's take a fictional example: rather than "Check out our superb collection", a store could write "Are you looking for a jacket for cool days?" Check out our selection and ask us what sizes are available before coming to try it on. »

The promise must then be kept: an accessible selection, accurate information and a person who responds. Also adapt the vocabulary to the product. Mentions on the material, origin or maintenance must come from verified data.

For gifts, explain the services actually offered: packaging, gift card or commercial exchange conditions. The terms and conditions must be readable before the person travels or orders.

05

Make booking an understandable service

A hold can be a useful first project when the team is available to confirm stock and put an item on hold.

The journey must specify three moments: customer request, confirmation from the store and collection. Until the team has verified the item, present the sent message as an availability request.

Also set a retention rule and explain it during confirmation. Without this, a customer may think that an item is waiting for them even though the team has relisted it.

Here are the decisions to make before activating this service:

  • Who views requests during opening?
  • How do we check size and color?
  • Where is the reserved item stored?
  • When does the reservation end?
  • How is unavailability or cancellation handled?

A reservation request with subsequent purchase in store and an order paid online constitute different paths. Define the one you propose and match the displayed conditions to actual operation. Our article on digitalization of commerce develops this progressive approach.

06

Prepare the visit from a phone

Take your mobile and search for an article on your own site. See if you can find the price, check the instructions and easily access the schedules.

This check can reveal very concrete details: text that is too small, photos that are slow to load, a button that blends in with the background or a form that is difficult to fill out.

Also think about travel. The address, specific times and verified access information must be easy to find. If you open exceptionally on a given day, update the relevant media when this opening is confirmed.

Each selection page can offer a coherent sequence: check availability, ask for advice or prepare for your visit. Choose the action that your team can actually handle.

07

Organize the preparation over four weeks

First week: choose your selection. Start from the products, stock and questions asked in store. Note the missing information.

Second week: prepare the page. Take the photos, write the descriptions and explain how requests work. Have someone who is familiar with the articles proofread the information.

Third week: test the course. Simulate a request, confirmation, withdrawal and unavailability. Check that the team finds information without depending on a single person.

Fourth week: make the selection visible. Link it from your site and your usual media. Use links that lead directly to the articles featured. Allow time to respond and update content.

This cadence is an organizational proposal. Adjust it to your team and the quantity of products retained.

08

Count the visits and sales that the service supports

Track availability requests, confirmed reservations, pickups and corresponding purchases. Also note the time spent responding and reservations not withdrawn.

You will then be able to distinguish a consulted page from a service actually used. The questions received will also give you material to improve the descriptions.

Low usage does not automatically mean adding products. First check if the selection is visible, if the promise is understood and if the response arrives within the announced time frame.

09

Your store already has things to show

The first task consists of choosing what you want to discover and preparing for the rest of the visit. A clear selection, kept up to date and linked to the work of the team can be a realistic starting point.

Transform reading into action.
